Method
Prepare the Chicken
- Rinse the chicken pieces under cold water and pat dry with paper towels. Season with salt and black pepper.
Make the Batter
- In a mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, buttermilk, egg, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, cayenne pepper, and baking powder until smooth.
Heat the Oil
- In a deep fryer or large pot, heat the vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C).
Batter and Fry the Chicken
- Dip each piece of chicken into the wet batter, ensuring it's fully coated. Carefully place the battered chicken into the hot oil.
- Fry the chicken for about 10-15 minutes, or until golden brown and cooked through (internal temperature should reach 165°F or 74°C).
Drain and Serve
- Remove the fried chicken from the oil and place it on a cooling rack to drain excess oil. Serve hot.
