  • 2 cups cooked black beans canned or homemade
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil or vegetable oil
  • 1 small onion finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 teaspoon cumin
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt adjust to taste
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper adjust to taste
  • 1/2 cup vegetable broth or water

Method
 

Cooking the Beans
  1. Heat the olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and sauté until translucent, about 5 minutes.
  2. Add the minced garlic and cumin, and cook for another minute until fragrant.
  3. Stir in the cooked black beans, salt, and pepper. Cook for about 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  4. Add the vegetable broth and bring to a simmer. Cook for another 10-15 minutes, allowing the beans to absorb the flavors.
  5. Using a potato masher, mash the beans to your desired consistency, adding more broth if necessary for creaminess.
  6. Taste and adjust seasoning if needed. Serve warm.
