Ingredients

Spiced Apple Filling
  • 5 medium Honeycrisp apples, peeled, cored & sliced to 1/4-inch wedges
  • 3 medium Granny Smith apples, peeled, cored & sliced to 1/4-inch wedges
  • 2 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 1 tbsp pure lemon juice
  • 1 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 tbsp all-purpose flour
Crispy Cinnamon Oat Streusel
  • 1 cup old-fashioned rolled oats
  • 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2/3 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 tsp kosher salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, chilled and cut into small cubes
  • 1/3 cup chopped pecans (optional)

Method

Prep & Toss Apples
  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish or a 10-inch cast iron skillet generously with butter.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, toss sliced Honeycrisp and Granny Smith apples with lemon juice, granulated sugar, cinnamon, and 1 tbsp flour until evenly coated. Spread into prepared baking dish.
Mix Streusel & Bake
  1. In another bowl, whisk together rolled oats, flour, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, salt, and pecans.
  2. Cut chilled butter cubes into the mixture using a pastry blender or clean fingertips until coarse, pea-sized crumbs form.
  3. Scatter streusel evenly over apples. Bake for 45 to 50 minutes until topping is deep golden brown and spiced juices bubble vigorously around the edges.
  4. Cool for 10 minutes to let juices set. Serve warm with vanilla bean ice cream and caramel drizzle.
