Baking Walkthrough
  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a 10-inch cast iron skillet or 2-quart baking dish with melted butter or coconut oil.
  2. In a large bowl, mix together the rolled oats, diced apple, chopped pecans, baking powder, ground cinnamon, nutmeg, and sea salt until evenly distributed.
  3. Transfer the oat and apple mixture into the prepared skillet, spreading it into an even layer.
  4. In a separate medium bowl, whisk together the milk, eggs, maple syrup, melted butter, and vanilla extract until completely smooth and emulsified.
  5. Pour the milk custard mixture evenly over the oats in the skillet, gently shaking the pan so the liquid settles into every crevice.
  6. Arrange the thin apple slices decoratively on top in fans or circles, and scatter a few additional pecan halves over the surface.
  7. Bake at 375°F (190°C) for 32 to 36 minutes until the top is golden-brown, the edges are lightly caramelized, and the center is set and springy to the touch.
  8. Remove from oven and let rest for 5 minutes. Drizzle generously with warm salted caramel sauce. Scoop into bowls, splash with cold cream or milk, and serve warm!
